Ghana: The Traditional colorful Damba festival is being celebrated by the Mamprusis in Ghana. The main venue of the celebration is Bawku and its surrounding areas.
Every year it is held between the months of July and August.
Even though the festival is linked with Islam, the festival has traditional touch rather than Islamic tone.
The 2-day festival is a well organized and celebrated in the towns of Dagbon, Gonjaland, Mamprusiland and Nanumbaland.
The Northern Regional Security Council has directed security operatives in Yendi to stop the Abudus groups from celebrating the Damba 2014 festival.
The Northern Youth for Peace and Development (NYUPED) has condemned the ban on Abudu Royals from celebrating the final lap of this year’s Damba festival in Yendi.
Ahead of the ban, a combined military/police team has allegedly raided the Abudu Regent, Boling-Lana Mahamadu Abdulai’s palace.
According to reports, this incident has heightened tension in Yendi Township particularly the Nayili-Fong electoral area.
