Lakkidi Viewpoint


Lakkidi viewpoint is known as the Gateway of Wayanad. This marvelous picnic spot is located about 700 meters above sea level. Lofty mountain peaks, gurgling crystal clear streams and luxuriant greenery forests are the natural beauties which can be assimilated from this elevated location. Incomparable picturesque sceneries are the exclusive attractions of this landscape spot. Lakkidi viewpoint is one of the highest locations in Wayanad where an impressive amount of rainfall is recorded every year. It is said that Lakkidi registers the second highest degree of rainfall in the world. The existence of beautiful streams, lakes, cataracts etc have made this place a marvelous viewpoint. Certain species of attractive birds such as Peacock, Peafowls, cormorants, egrets, bulbuls, babblers, snipes etc are seen living in this locality. The evergreen forest in this natural sightseeing site is the home to so many wild animals such as Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, cheetahs, sambars, sloth bears, and spotted deer. Trekking is the other favorite activity waiting for the tourists arriving here. There are also locations in Lakkidi, suitable for hiking and camping. Generally, the prevailing climatic conditions in this area is very pleasant with a cool breezy atmosphere. Nowadays this sightseeing spot is speedily developing as a popular hill retreat.
