New Delhi: Special forces of the Indian Army in coordination with the air force have carried out a surgical surprise attack on Terrorist
hideouts inside Myanmar. In the first such cross-border operation by the Indian Army, they have killed nearly 20 insurgents of the groups believed to be responsible for the recent deadly ambush occurred in Manipur that killed 18 soldiers. Elite commandos of the army went a few kilometers inside the Myanmar territory to destroy two camps of insurgents hiding there after their attacks in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh last week. According to the highly placed sources, the operation was guided by “specific and precise” intelligence input. About 15 to 20 insurgents are said to have killed in the assault while no casualties are reported among the Indian soldiers. Commenting on the operation, MoS in the Information and Broadcasting ministry Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore who is also a former colonel said that as India has been maintaining good relationship with Myanmar, we could enter into their territory and give a deserved strike at the terrorist hideouts there. Rathore also declared that any threat to India’s security, safety and national integrity would be dealt with firm responses, if found essential to ensure peace and tranquility along the border and in the border states. Disclosing the operation, Major General Ranbir Singh, The Additional Director General of Military Operations, said that the army had been on high alert after the recent Manipur attack. He has also pointed out the credible and specific intelligence information being received about further terrorist attacks planned to be carried-out within Indian territory. According to him, these attacks were to be carried out by some of the groups involved in the earlier attacks on security personnel and their allies. Maj Gen Singh while briefing the operation said that in view of the imminent threat, an immediate response was inevitable and based on the intelligence information, the army conducted operations to counter these well planned assaults. Maj Gen Singh while concluding his explanation said that the operation was carried out along the Indo-Myanmar border at two locations simultaneously, along the Nagaland and Manipur borders.
